I have a new installation of SQL 2012 installed on Server 2008 R2 Standard with 32GB of memory running our ERP system. Out of the box SQL is consuming 24GB of memory and the database and related queries run like crap. Like crap means that the report I was running which is basically a data map of all tables, constraints, etc. locks the system up big time. If I set the memory allocation to 16GB the report of 3200 pages runs in less than a minute. Is this normal for SQL 2012?
The server is a DELL R715, 32GB Memory, 2TB RAID10, 2 x 8 core Opterons
