Our SQL Server (2008 standard, 32 bit) was configured before I arrived at this job with a 1TB hard drive with 40GB partitioned for the system (C) and the rest for SQL and other files (D). I am consistently running out of space on the C drive and there is nothing else I can remove. I've ran disk cleanup and CCcleaner but I've maxed that out and sit just under 1GB free.
So, I have a few options and wanted some input.
There is a 3GB recovery partition available that I would like to get rid of and then extend to the C drive. If I backup and image the C drive, should this work well for me? This should give me breathing room for a while. This is my preferred option just to free up space. Can I also take a little more from D and give it to C with this method?
The second option is to image both the C and D drives and place them on separate hard drives. If I go with this option, I know I'll need to completely stop SQL and then make the images. Then put the images on the new drives, install and hopefully it will work. Anything else to consider in this option?
Also, SQL is installed on the D drive but could the logs be on C and be filling up? Where could I go and look?
I'd rather go with option 1 if I can for now.
Thanks...
