"Phantom" Entries in SQL

We have a massive VBA spreadsheet that accesses a rater simple SQL DB to get part information from a table. It currently has two columns with 201 roles. An unremarkable but needed DB.

Got a few things going on.

First up, we have a part called 11 X 3 X 3 - 14 that no longer exists on the DB. However, if it is entered in the spreadsheet (which then checks the DB for the info) it still returns values instead of doing #VALUE because the part doesn't exist.

Also, we have a spreadsheet which grabs a simple dump of the data in this table and have had it for years with no problems. It shows a part that doesn't exist at all in the DB.

Any suggestions here? I can get around SQL Management Studio but still an early intermediate SQL user. We are on SQL 2005.
