Remote MS SQL DB Connection with SSMS

Hi All,

Quick question regarding remote db access for windows server 2016/mssql express. I need to connect to a remote database on a client server. Will all i need to do is give them my IP and obtain SQL Server authentication login credentials? That way i can connect via SSMS?

From there side i assume they have to allow remote connections on the SQL side, allow my IP through the firewall on the server. Will they need to white list my IP any where else ? Like on the router/switch as well?
