SQL Database Encryption Question

Hello all

Im currently trying to determine something regarding some old databases we have on site.

Firstly, i must express how little i know about database encryption. We have some old databases which our 'master key password' doesn't seem to work. If i try and run the following statement:

OPENMASTERKEYDECRYPTIONBYPASSWORD='mypasswordhere

I receive the error message -The key is not encrypted using the specified decryptor

Now, does this mean im stuck, in terms of decrypting my data?
