Should my SQL server use more than 1 core?

Hi guys, I am hoping to tap into your collective knowledge to understand this one.

I have a new HP ML350 G9 server, 24GB RAM, SSD RAID1 array, Xeon 6 core & HT (12 virtual processors)

The server runs Windows 2012 R2 Standard with SQL 2008 R2 Standard all SPs and updates installed to both.

Client application is a quoting system and runs various queries that cause the SQL server to chugg away for quite a while at times. The reason I am asking for help is that I only ever see the SQL server process using a single core. I have checked that SQL server can see all 12 of the cores and that the 'processors' tab of the server config is configured to be enabled on all processors.

Is there something I have missed? Is this normal behaviour? Is there anything else I can show you to help determine if I have screwed something up? Is it maybe just the way...
