We used Veeam 7 to clone three Windows 2003 SQL 2005 servers from our production environment to our test lab. The servers were not shut down for this process. We enabled the application-aware/vss option in Veeam for this. The servers were migrated from one vSphere host to another.
There were about 50 DBs in total that were brought over in this way. This seemed like a good way to update our lab quickly and easily. It's not the sort of thing we'd really try to do in production.
Three of the DBs on one server got corrupted, though, and I had to restore those from backups.
We are wondering what may have caused that corruption? Is the application-aware/vss functionality not that reliable? Or was there likely something else that went wrong? I see the 824 errors in the event log, but nothing else in there that provides any further insight.
