We will be setting up a SQL Server 2005 database to run a manufacturing program. Typically the data will be aggregated each minute. However we'd like to use SQL Server 2012 (or later) for the better SSRS reporting (since there were major improvements since the long-gone days of 2005). So my question is your opinion and thoughts or suggestions on how to implement this.
Should we just setup a Linked Server (although I'm leary of letting a reporting database possibly lock up my Primary server running queries through the link) - or just setup Transactional Replication somehow (although I'm not sure what options 2005 gives us!)
