SQL Express Database to SQL 2005

I am trying to move a SQL Express database from one server to SQL 2005 on a separate test server.  On SQL Express I backed up the database and on the SQL test server I created a new database then went to restore the backed up express database I receive an error message of "The media family on device " " is incorrectly formed.  SQL cannot process this media family."  Is there a step that I am missing for migrating from SQL express to SQL 2005?  Note this is just a test environment right now, if this works than it will be moved to SQL 2012.
