Ok background...

1. SQL 2K SP4 standard

2. Windows 2K SP4 advanced, dedicated database server

3. Virtualised with VMware vSphere 5.5 on a Dell Poweredege R420 (local storage)

4. Couple of other low demand (IMO) servers (branch DC and a test SQL box)

5. Backed up via Acronis VMprotect Appliance

For the last 3 days I have come into find users being unable to logon, upon opening Enterprise Manager there is no databases! File structure is ok (at least!).

Restarting the SQL service will resolve the issue (for now!)

Error logs show me the following

The log for database 'tempdb' is not available..
Error: 9001, Severity: 21, State: 1
Write error during log flush. Shutting down server
