In a few days I am changing the domain of our standalone SQL 2005 server (on server 2008) from an SBS 2003 domain (no trust) to a 2012 domain. I Googled for an hour and have not found a definitive step-by-step guide as to how to go about this, which surprised me. I have even read of people suggesting just to build a new SQL server and restore the databases to it instead. Has anyone done the domain change and actually documented the steps? This SQL hosts our critical LOB app and I want to cover my bases.
Our setup is vanilla and the SQL service is running under a domain account, so I know that needs addressing. Is there a recommended procedure here?
The local Administrator on the SQL server owns the databases, so that will help.
