I don't have much experience specing out database servers. Trying to help a buddy out with an idea (small home base project/startup), hoping to get more insights with someone more knowledgeable in this area.
------
"The dataset will contain up to 10 million rows of stock data. It will run 2 sequential processes every day:
-The first process will update the dataset from a search engine with the previous days values
-The second process will apply roughly 109 calculations to the dataset of roughly 10 million records and produce a "result dataset" of no more than 500,000 records x 150 columns.
------
What do I look for when purchasing hardware to support the request above? how do you spec out requirements? we're currently not looking for anything enterprise level at all, trying to get away with home built servers if possible just to get a proof...
