Now that SQL Server 2014 has been out for a while I thought it may be helpful to some in our community to know how it stacks up against other Databases. In this example we are comparing SQL 2014 to Oracle.
TCO
SQL Server: No separate pricing or add-ons for advanced capabilities. SQL Server 2014 delivers at least 11 database capabilities built-in including BI, data quality, and management options.
Oracle: Charges customers for comparable “options” in addition to database licenses.
Mission-critical
SQL Server: availability and performance environments at low TCO: In-Memory Built-In across all workloads. Experience average 10x and up to 30x transactional performance gains over prior versions with In-Memory OLTP. Over 100x query performance gains with updatable In-Memory ColumnStore for DW.
