Hello spicey peeps,
I'm looking into options for connecting PowerBI Desktop to our SQL Server, the SQL Server is 2016 and on prem, we have a 3rd party application that has pretty poor reporting out of the box so want to interrogate the data directly in SQL.
We've been doing this already on a snapshot basis for some time using ODBC and Excel with some basic pivots but this does not give us the capability to analyse trends so 'I think' wewant to be able to take periodic snapshots of the application database so we can analyse job states, look for patterns and anomalies, and tie the SQL data together with other data sources for quick ad-hoc analysis (something PowerBI does out of the box).
I'm thinking I need SSAS installing, and a Cube creating that can be used as a datasource by PowerBI Desktop, my level of experience is that I know these...
