Hello,

Here is my situation that I am trying to determine. We have a Microsoft server that hosts a web app that we have a perpetual license for, but it is now an archival server, and we need it to be very static. So we will be blocking it from updating, and will be limiting it's access. it will be off until it is needed. We currently have the latest licensing (per core) for this SQL server with Software Assurance.

Here is my question. If This server no longer has access to the internet, and we don't want to update it (due to incompatibilities in the web app), how will that affect the Microsoft Server and the SQL server sitting on top?

Microsoft Server 2012 R2 Standard (licensed with SA)

Microsoft SQL Server 2014 Standard (licensed by core, SA)

We are an educational institution, so anywhere we can reduce costs, we try to take, but we don't...
