Hello, we are soon going to be upgrading some servers, and I'm curious of something. Currently we have an ERP that we have running as a single VM, it acts as a terminal server to run the app as well as SQL installed on that same VM for the backend.
Would there be any benefit to splitting these off into 2 separate servers? I didn't think it would make a difference considering its all pulling from the same physical server either way, but it was suggested to me to look into it a little further.
Another point that may make a difference is with the ERP app, we can't run anything newer than Windows 2003. So even if there is no real benefit just to running them on separate VMs, would moving the SQL server install from 2003 to a 2008/2012 VM give any benefits?
Thanks
