We have finished configuring a SQL 2016 Always-On Availability Group configuration in our test environment. After wrangling some AD permissions issues here, (Thanks Robert!) we have one final question regarding the IP Address for the AAG listener.
Both of our nodes are on the same subnet in AWS EC2. Does the IP Address for the listener need to be a free, unassigned IP (not configured as a primary or secondary IP on an existing NIC on one of the nodes) or should it be a currently assigned IP address of the primary node?
I don't understand how this would ever work if the IP chosen was not configured on the NIC of the primary node.
