Copying SQL 2005 database to SQL 2017 database

Hello everyone,

So I've been migrating our ERP server from a physical 2008 R2 server to a virtual 2012 R2 server.  At the moment, I am stuck trying to get the 2005 SQL database onto the new server which has 2017 SQL on it.  I tried doing a backup and restore but an error pops up saying that they aren't compatible with each other.  Is there any other way I could get the database from 2005 SQL to 2017 SQL.  Is there a way I could export the database and try to import the database onto the new server?
