I have a question regarding the licensing of Microsoft SQL Server 2017 Standard in a HyperV failover cluster environment.
We are running a 4 node MS Windows Server 2016 Datacenter Failover cluster.
We want to setup a separate VM running MS SQL Server 2017 Standard edition.
From what I've gathered by reading through Microsoft's licensing guidelines, you need an active Software Assurance agreement for SQL Server in order to be able to move SQL server license to another server in a server farm.
In Microsoft's words:
"License Mobility within a server farm Allows reassignment of SQL Server 2017 licenses within a server farm more than once every 90 days. Does not apply to SQL Server PDW. "
So when they're talking about a server farm, are they explicitly talking about a failover cluster here?
