Please rescue this SQL noob.
The scenario: We're moving to a new software provider and have heard a few horror stories regarding the provider we're leaving cutting off access to the database which houses all of our business data. In order to access the data we currently use a raft applications provided by the provider to access a few different databases on the system. I have sufficient access credentials to be able to log in to the SQL instance in management studio and can pull data to different places like excel.
What we'd like to do is set up a new database instance which replicates the existing data so that should anything happen with our current provider, I will have an up to date copy of the data which we can use for historical information once we've migrated to the new provider.
