Recommended BI Solutions with SQL Server

Hi All,

I've been looking into implementing a BI solution in our organisation to better use the data we have held in a mixture of SQL databases (2005) and our accounts package (a Pervasive back-end which should be possible to connect to via OLE DB).

I've tried a few dedicated BI solutions such as Tableau and QlikView - no doubt they are good but very pricey considering I only have 10 or so users to accommodate.  So I've started looking into PowerView and PowerPivot in Excel 2013 and am impressed - can't do as much as other dedicated solutions but would be easy for users to pick up and I think does enough for our needs.

A couple of questions for you all then...

1) What options would we have to share the Excel PowerViews around outside of SharePoint?

2) Would there be any advantage in upgrading our SQL Server to 2012 if I go ahead and use Excel 2013 PowerView?  (we don't have SharePoint so wouldn't use the browser-based PowerView)

3) Any issues with running such a solution on a RDS platform?

4) Anyone else implemented a BI solution and has any suggestions I haven't considered (either Excel 2013 or otherwise)?

Thanks Spiceheads!
