Using the STATE Argument As A Column Name In SQL

I know that there has to be an explanation on how to do this, but I have yet to find one.

I need to make a column in a SQL table known named State, however, State, in SQL is an argument an this column name is invalid.  

Is there a way to use the word State as a column name without it being looked upon as a SQL argument?
