Hi Guys
Bit of a tough one (for me at least)
I have a SQL server I inherited from a previous tech, and this was not configured optimally. I’ll elaborate:
The server is performing every role under the sun.
DC
SQL (using SQL express)
File server
Web server
Backups (over network from a camera system, and onto external drives)
Obviously a server with these types of roles all on box causes issues but it generally ran fine. However, it is suddenly very slow since Monday.
It has a 3 drive RAID 5 array which I think has a failing drive. I was in resource monitor and was watching the disk queue length, which I have read should ideally not exceed 2.
Now this drive has files on it, Pastel companies and the SQL databases.
The drive activity (on the raid 5 array) goes from zero with a queue length of zero to spikes of 100% and queue length that exceed 30....
