I'm teaching myself SQL to learn to be a DBA or something else database related. I'm in the early stages of figuring out my next career moves, and doing IT for schools mostly for the last 3 years.
Through using Spiceworks and generating reports of what kit we have on out network, and introducing monitoring of stuff, I find it interesting generating numbers and figures from other numbers and figures. I'm not really an infrastructure guy as I've had to deal with flakey school servers who don't want to spend any money on necessary upgrades. I've set up back ups before from previous employers and done restores whilst in places where the back ups were someone shoddy and threw caution to the wind.
I understand training to be a DBA is a long hard road, and the job ads want people with experience, so moving from a regular desktop support to this...
