Migrate to an AlwaysON Cluster from a Standalone Host Using Log Shipping

Hi all,

Apologies if this has been posted before, I did a search and didn't get a definitive answer so thought I'd ask.

We've got a customer with data on a SQL 2008r2 instance running on dedicated hardware.  This hardware is getting on for 8 years old so we're going to move them over onto an AlwaysON instance running on a SQL VM.  The problem is that the total DB size is 750gb and they want to keep downtime to a minimum.

So, my question: can I keep the new AlwaysON instance up to date using log shipping from the old, physical server until I'm ready to cut-over to the new instance?

I can't find any info on this setup, there's plenty on using an AG to keep a separate instance up to date but nothing I can see on the reverse.  Is this supported/possible?

Thanks!
