I work in a government agency of around 70 people. My supervisor wants to upgrade from the physical server we have now to a better one and has tasked me to figure out if it is warranted. I am fairly new to IT, and databases in general, and I am looking for some guidance. The server itself only has one single VM on it, and that VM doesn't run any services, it just has Sql Server 2012 on it. The users use Access to do all their database work, and we have about 50 databases. We have 2 other physical servers that house a few other VM's, we just have multiple physical servers for fail-over since we cannot afford to have any downtime ever.
