Hi all,
I work in a medium business with a small IT shop and we're purchasing a new server for SQL 2014. We're looking at a Dell Poweredge R730 with 12 drive bays. We'll be getting 2x10k drives for a RAID1 for the OS and applications. I've been reading up on SQL best practices and I see a lot of suggestions to split up the TempDB, Data, and Log storage locations in separate RAID10 arrays. Since I only have 10 drive bays left after the 2 used for the OS RAID, how would you divvy up the remaining drives? My current thought is to go like this:
2x10k drives in RAID1 for the OS+applications
4x15k drives in RAID10 for the Log files
6x15k drives in RAID10 for the Data and TempDB files
I'd love to get this on a SAN, but that isn't in our budget. We'll be using this SQL server for Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012R2 data in case that helps.
Any advice would...
