I thought I'd just say hello. After 14 years at my last company ranging from admin/programming/dba of an obscure ERP system called Dataflo running on a PICK database called Universe - and after acquisitions and migration to SAP becoming the almost 100% "EDI mapping guy"... I'm now back to working for a small company running a BPCS ERP on DB2 on AS400 and an MS Dynamics CRM.
They hired me in to unlock their data and I couldn't be happier - unlocking data is my favorite thing to do. For 7 years in the 90's I worked at an inbound phone center and we ran DB2/Mainframe and some larger Oracle databases - I've coded a lot of SQL - I'm just a bit rusty. Used a great tool way back then called Forest and Trees - essentially dashboards long before the dashboard craze.
So , back to the present, we already owned an SQL Server 2008 R2 - Enterprise - evaluated a few other options and decided sticking with what we have made the most sense - so I'm learning SQL Server and SSRS to start.
Quickly finding DB2 SQL syntax isn't playing as nicely as I'd like in SSRS. Little things. And I'm having Data Source and driver issues. Example - have it all working in BIDS directly on the server - deploy to report server (same server) - data source fails. I started resetting up things from the install 2 years ago and that's gettinb me bit further.
Short term is just to get SSRS reports out and available to get the information out of the green screens for production. Longer term is dashboards, metrics, etc... long way to go.
Anyway - HELLO EVERYONE!
John
