I am currently planning a hardware refresh for a client and wanted to get some feedback from the community regarding my assumptions and choices. My client wants to simply replace the two existing servers with 2 new metal boxes. I'd prefer to add one Decent PowerEdge and install 2 VMS to cover the load.
Current hardware at the site is a Dell T610 w/ 32 GB RAM 1 TB C:\ drive made of (4) 500 GB enterprise WD drives in RAID-10. This is Windows Small Business Server 2011 Std. AD, File & Print, and some small built in (SBS) SQL for monitoring and SharePoint. (1) Gb NIC, not teamed. There is about 500 GB of data - Word, Excel, .pdf, .jpg This data is likely to grow about 100% over 5 years.
Second server is Dell T410 16 GB RAM, 464 GB C:\ drive made of (4) enterprise WD drives in RAID-10,and SQL Server 2008 R2, on two Gb NICs (not teamed)....
