While looking through SQL 2012 errorlogs on windows server 2012R2server called "SQLOLD", I found the following entry repeating every minute:

2016-03-11 10:53:26.15 Logon Error: 18456, Severity: 14, State: 5.
2016-03-11 10:53:26.15 Logon Login failed for user 'DOMAIN\NEWSERVER$'. Reason: Could not find a login matching the name provided. [CLIENT: aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd]

The source server was recently P2V'd, then renamed "NEWSERVER", and the SQL server was also renamed from "SQLOLD" to "NEWSERVER" using MS's preferred method. Something on "NEWSERVER" is trying to connect to SQL onSQLOLDevery 60 seconds and I can't figure out which process it is. I have actually stopped all MSSQL services, backup exec agent services, and application services on "NEWSERVER", but the connection attempts continue. Any idea how to figure out what process is attempting...
