I've got a 2003 server running SQL2005 that is stuck in a continuous logon/logoff loop. I can stop the process and end users still see their information like the server is running normally. I've tried several things to repair the server without luck (more things planned for after hours today). At the same time we're rebuilding the server as a new machine and planning to restore data from backups. Only problem with restoring from backups is we loose 24 hours of data (accepted risk but not ideal).
My question is I can use UNC connections and see the SQL databases on the server (we don't have remote access to SQL itself). If I stopped the SQL servers what will happen if I move the databases to the new server and attach them there? So essentially I can't detach the databases but I can shut down all SQL services then move the databases....
