The latest version of Deltek Vision (7.5) is forcing us to update both our Windows Servers and SQL Server to a later version. We currently have two VM systems, an application server and the SQL server. Both are currently running on Server 2008 R2 with the SQL server running SQL Server 2008 R2.
We want to move all this over to Server 2012 R2 and SQL Server 2014 so hopefully Deltek wont bug us about what seem like rather arbitrary upgrade requirements for a few more years.
I understand Server 2012 licensing schemes but I am a bit stumped about our licensing requirements for SQL Server 2014. We have about 50 users that will access Vision from time to time.
1. Do we really need to license per core? Min 4 cores = $7000 This seems like overkill for us.
2. Possibly a stupid question, but if we can go the Server+ CAL route,doweneed50 user CALS? Or...
