We have an HP DL380 Gen8 and we have 2 OS drives now (RAID 1) but have 6 available SAS slots. I would like to make this a production SQL server to relieve our existing SQL servers of some of their work. I am seeing average queue lengths in excess of 12 or 15 at times causing the server to e unresponsive for extended periods of time.
In the past when I created a SQL server with spinning drives I would have physical drives dedicated for the OS, Data, Logs, and TempDB. Since this is my first venture with SSDs I am seeking suggestions/recommendations. Do we still need to do it like that or can I make one large RAID5 array with a hot spare considering these are SSDs?
What have you done that was successful in your SQL SSD deployment? Did you use SAS or SATA SSD drives?
Thanks in advance,
Richard
