I have a specific Visual account that belonged to a previous CEO/developer for numerous reports throughout the company which pull data from at least one SQL visual database. Numerous employees use the account credentials to run various crystal reports and such on a day to day basis. Oddly, they are able to run their reports with the credentials, while instantly drawing an Error: 18456 Severity 14 State 8 error in the log file.
I figured this information out by tracing the logged IP's to machines, and asking the users what they were doing at the time of the error. Every time - using that account. I tried changing the password to one they didn't know, and having them run the report with the old credentials. The report failed to run. Set the password back and the report ran, but the failed login error recurred in the logs.
I'm pretty shaky...
