Hello Everyone,
For starters, I'm not much of a SQL guy. I know how to do basic backup and restores and I've learned how to do some basic queries. But I don't really know SQL management (and neither does the DB manager they hired, he's more of a programmer)
For some time our core software we use has been running really slow. The SQL database is about 65GB and growing. The existing SQL server is 2x quad core 2.4GHz with 64GB of RAM, 8x 136GB 15K SAS drives, 2 in RAID 1 for the os, six in RAID 5 for the data, Windows 2008 R2 enterprise and SQL 2008 R2 standard. There are several other databases that run on this server, in all totaling around 99GB. I know enough to know that SQL is RAM hungry and there isn't enough in the server.
We are a transportation logistics company and our core software handles our dispatch, billing and driver...
