I have a SQL Server 2008 R2 server that hosts 2 production databases and some other random test databases that I use. Total data size is ~10GB. I am looking to change/update my backup strategy on this server and am looking for advice/suggestions. We are a small business that uses Microsoft Dynamics SL with a relatively small transaction rate during the standard work day.
Currently this is what I am doing in Full Recovery Mode using Backup Exec with SQL Agent:
Backup to Tape (200/400GB LTO Tapes)
-Full Backup Exec backup of all databases at 8:00pm that runs about 3 hours and includes ALL network data (user files, etc.) along with SQL.
-Transaction log backups at 9:00AM, 12:00AM, and 3:00PM.
-The tape is removed at 3:00PM and taken offsite at the end of the day.
-10 Tape rotation. Basically I have 10 days worth of backups before I overwrite...
