We are upgrading to Great Plains 2015 within a month. And it may be the right time to upgrade our SQL Server Hardware.
Currently, it is running on a Dell PowerEdge T100 with Core i3 550 @ 3.20GHz and 4GB of ram on a 32 bit OS on Server 2008 R2, Standard with SQL 2005.
I am considering rebuilding this server from scratch with the latest Windows and SQL that GP 2015. So, got some options.
Rebuild this server and run as a physical SQL Server.
Rebuild as a Hyper-V host and run the SQL server on a VM.
Retire this server and run on one of our beefier Hyper-V hosts.
I was just wondering if SQL Server takes a hit when running as a VM and what best practices are.
Thanks...
