We have a SharePoint server running SQL Server 2008 R2 Standard. I have been asked to upgrade this to SQL Server 2008 R2 Enterprise for the sole purpose of utilizing PowerPivot for SharePoint.
I've installed SQL from scratch dozens of times, but never did an in-place upgrade. My question is, would doing an upgrade bring down production? Should I do this after-hours?
I know by best practices I should, but they kinda want this urgently and I couldn't find any documentation that states that an upgrade would require a server reboot or stopping/starting services.
